The commissioner for ministry of power Engr. Kharin Akari Komuko has assured Bayelsans that work has commenced at the locations of the vandalised transmission towers to ensure that power is restored in the state as a matter of urgency.
Engr. Kharin Komuko made this known while briefing newsmen during an on the spot assessment conducted at the affected vandalised transmission towers along the Igbogene axis of the state and the Ahoada axis of River State on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
The Power commissioner, frowned at the high level of vandalism that led to the total collapse of the affected towers.
He noted that work has commenced in ernest at the Igbogene location in order to fix the power situation in the state, adding that the state government is not relenting in its obligation of providing stable power supply to Bayelsans.
The commissioner also used the medium to inform Bayelsans of the recent collapse of additional eleven transmission towers supplying power to the state, located at the Ahoada/Mbiama axis of the East/West road, stressing that the transmission company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently mobilizing to fix the situation.
Engr. Komuko further hinted that the Vanadalised transmission towers are facilities owned and managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and not the Bayelsa state government. He noted that the Bayelsa state ministry of power is in touch with TCN and Bayelsa state Electricity company in order to fix the situation as soon as possible.
Reacting on the power situation in the State, The Deputy governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo used the medium to appreciate Bayelsans for their understanding and patience while appealing to Bayelsans to excercise faith in the Governor Douye Diri led prosperity government which is committed to putting Bayelsa first, in line with his prosperity agenda.
The Deputy Governor also issued a stern warning to vandals to steer clear of Bayelsa state as anyone caught or any syndicate group linked to any form of sabotage of electricity infrastructure in the State, will be prosecuted.
