BAYELSA STATE PLUNGED INTO DARKNESS AS VANDALS ATTACK TRANSMISSION TOWERS

Yenagoa, Bayelsa State - Governor Senator Douye Diri has expressed concern over the frequent power outages in the state, following the latest incident where vandals tampered with transmission towers, plunging the entire state into darkness.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Friday, the collapse of two 132kV lines transmitting electricity from Owerri in Imo State through Ahoada in Rivers State has caused the blackout.

The Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company Limited, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo, confirmed that TCN officials are working to restore power and appealed for patience. He urged the public to be vigilant and report suspicious activities around the towers to security agencies.

Kemenanabo emphasized the need for TCN to establish a work centre in Bayelsa, a call made by the state since 2021, to enable quick response to such incidents.

The state government is working with TCN to restore power as quickly as possible.
