PORT HARCOURT REFINERY UPDATE: Licensing Process Ongoing, Minister Defends Rehabilitation Exercise

The Port Harcourt Refining Company is currently undergoing licensing processes after completing mechanical work in December 2023, according to senior officials at the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and NNPC.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, has defended the ongoing rehabilitation exercise, citing the example of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which took time to start producing products after its inauguration.

Lokpobiri assured Nigerians that the government is working hard to ensure the refinery commences the release of refined petroleum products, which will positively impact the country's economy.

The refinery has received 450,000 barrels of crude oil and is awaiting completion of regulatory compliance tests before commencing operations.

The government has promised to support the refinery in any way possible to ensure its completion and commencement of production.
