A devastating incident occurred yesterday at 4:30 pm in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. A local boat transporting passengers and market women from Ezetu Community caught fire, resulting in a significant loss of life.
The boat, which travels to Ezetu Community weekly for the popular Denghe market, was engulfed in flames, leaving 17 people dead and many more injured. Although the Maritime Authorities have yet to release an official statement, unconfirmed reports suggest that two of the 17 victims have been recovered by community youths, while the remaining bodies are still missing.
